Motiveless Crime News Headlines

July 2nd, 2009

EconomyMost major news outlets are reporting that the unemployment rate in the US has risen to 9.5% for the month causing stocks to fall across the board. Forbes is reporting that in the past month 467,000 nonfarm jobs were cut, a slightly higher number than was expected. To make matters worse the average workweek dropped from 33.1 in May to 33 average hours in June indicating that many US workers are underemployed. Energy stocks have been the hardest hit following the news that crude oil prices had plummeted $2.34 to $66.97. Analysts continue to push an optimistic outlook stating that companies may not start hiring anytime soon but American consumerism will eventually cause a turnaround.

Flight AF447The Air France flight that crashed into the Atlantic Ocean on June 1st appears to have broken upon impact, not before as previously theorized. Flight AF447, an Airbus 330, crashed into the ocean killing all 228 passengers. Life jackets found at the point of impact were not inflated indicating that the passengers were caught completely off guard. The flight, which took off from Rio de Janeiro, was set to land in Paris, France. The flight was missing for six hours before air traffic controllers finally noticed its absence. From evidence at the scene it has been determined that Flight AF447 had a strong vertical acceleration and broke apart on impact. There were no recorded distress calls.

Something Before Bed XX

July 3rd, 2007

Motiveless Crime is on an upswing (to put it mildly). The site has grown in readership in a very dramatic way recently, which hopefully is a sign that the content provided here is hitting a mark with people across the world. So far I have avoided posting the site on social networking sites such as Digg and Del.icio.us because I really wanted the site to prove itself first. Today it did just that. Soon social bookmarking sites will be integrated into the site but will be removed if they prove to not be useful.

Earlier when MC was still in development we used AdSense to try and gain a profit. When you spend all day working on a site and its content, you have to hope that it will someday turn a profit. AdSense, a Google creating, has since been removed because after a large number of page impressions it appeared that Google wasn’t giving any credit to the site. Therefore Motiveless Crime is currently completely devoid of advertisements or paid posts. This may not always be the case but for now this blog is spam free (aside from one post, which is debatable).

I would like to thank every reader and subscriber out there for rocketing the site from ground-level to the top 10 on most sites, not to mention moving it to the top of Google page ranks within weeks of birth. Motiveless Crime has you to thank, hopefully we can continue to earn the respect that you have shown.

A few weeks ago one of the videos posted was concerned with advertising and its effects on society. Some would say that advertising could cause the end of the world in one fashion of another. I agree, but I will never concede that something isn’t able to change and better itself for the world. If billboards across the world were outfitted with solar panels, such as detailed in the video above, imagine the free energy that could be used in every town and village. This is the kind of environmental change that the entire world should be following.

In the past few weeks it has also become apparent that the Bush administration is withholding information from Senate and House judiciary committees regarding the firing of multiple district attorneys. John Stewart and company made this statement on their show recently:

True, the format of the show is based on political commentary and at times shouldn’t really be considered a news outlet, but keep in mind that truth comes in many forms. Perhaps the most contagious form of truth is laughter. Laugh, but retain the truth; Tony Snow is a liar.

Motiveless Crime is on the rise.

Snail Mail Ambushes

June 13th, 2007

Here is a form-letter that I wrote this past year and was used in a massive grassroots mailing that flooded our local senator’s office with the same message over and over. Eventually he got the point. It is open for use, feel free to send it on to your own if you wish and are that motivated. Any comments welcome, as always:

Dear Senator:

President Bush and his administration are going too far. The federal deficit is currently under scrutiny and because of that Senator Domenici and President Bush have decided to sell off America’s lands to companies that will tear it from tree limb to tree limb. There are plenty of better ways to fund the federal government without auctioning off our heritage and the heritage of our children.

America’s national forests and public lands are home to some of the most striking beauty on earth. These areas provide clean drinking water for millions of Americans across the country as well as providing a much needed respite from the urban environment. These forests and lands are also a very critical habitat for many of the World’s endangered species. These species include America’s grizzly bear, wolf, and salmon.

Many Americans believe that national forests and other federally protected lands are completely safe from logging, mining, road-building and other destructive development. Unfortunately, they’re not and this ignorance is anything but their fault. The Bush administration fosters ignorance as a way of controlling the populace. But what is important is that more than half of our national forests no longer qualify as wilderness because of logging, mining, road-building and other activities. There are approximately 400,000 miles of roads crisscrossing our national forests (this is enough to circle the planet 16 times). One has to ask why? The simple answer is to help logging companies gain access to even more remote areas of our national forests. More than 95 percent of our old-growth trees have been logged. Road-building and logging cause erosion, and fragment important wildlife habitat. Without this wildlife and the species that live within it, American will become nothing but a large cement slab on the planet.

The Bush administration has long held the belief that quick fixes are the answer. But I ask that you take into consideration the billions of lives, human and non-human alike that will be destroyed or affected by the decimation of these lands. Last year alone the President managed to through out protection for over 60 million acres of national forest—land the American people set aside for generations to come. The president has also engineered a massive expansion of oil and gas drilling on public land in the American West, exacerbating the American dependence on petroleum products instead of spending money on alternative energy options.

Please consider all of the problems that will arise from the sale of these lands. Consider the children and families that will no longer have the ability to experience true nature. Think of the millions of animals, endangered and not, that will no longer have a habitat. The deficit is a problem, but making America a massive parking lot is more so. Please stop President Bush and Chairman Domenici before they cause irreconcilable destruction.

Sincerely,

(name here)
